W 62

62. Charny asks:   So it happens that a man at arms has taken another and he holds the other as a prisoner and makes the prisoner swear that he will return within a certain period to a castle which he names; and he swears to do this.   The prisoner comes to the castle and finds that the people of his party have recently taken the castle.   The prisoner enters and says that he has come to keep his faith.  Those inside do not want to take him prisoner.   Nevertheless he remains in the castle eight days or more and no one claims anything from him; so he goes back to his house.  Then the master comes and claims him as his prisoner, and the prisoner says no.  Many good arguments are given on either side.  How will it be judged by the law of arms?
