W 68

68.  Charny asks:   A man at arms takes another man at arms by some warlike deed and leads him off to a city where he remains in garrison.  So the master makes the prisoner swear that he will be a loyal prisoner in this city, within the gates, and he gives his faith in this manner.  The master goes outside the city, and before he is able to return the city is taken by some enemies, the friends of the prisoner.  The prisoner goes home.   The one who took him requires him to come to him on his faith as his prisoner.  The other refuses.   Many good arguments are given on either side.  How will it be judged by the law of arms?
